Motorist drives hijackers to Mooi River

He allegedly drove past Mooi River Plaza, where they told him to stop and jump out and run

A MAN was forced to run for his life after he was taken by hijackers from Higginson Highway all the way to Mooi River Plaza on Saturday, 3 September.

According to the victim, he was driving along the highway when he heard a bang at the back of his car. “He pulled over to assess the damages,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam.

Another car pulled over under the pretence of helping the motorist drive to the nearest police station. Three men got into his car with him, while the other followed them. He was about to turn off into Montclair when the strangers instructed him to drive straight to Pietermaritzburg. Without any threats or weapons pointed at him, he followed their instructions through fear.

He allegedly drove past Mooi River Plaza, where they told him to stop and jump out and run. “He ran until he was assisted by someone who allowed him to call the police. He was advised to report it to the station where the incident happened,” said Cpt Vijiam.

Montclair officers, Const Habeeb and Capt Khoza interviewed the complainant. The vehicle was not fitted with a tracking device and was not recovered and the victim was unable to identify the men.
