A MAN was arrested on Friday, 9 September, mere moments after stealing a compressor from a Bluff home.
News of the item’s theft from a home in Compromise Crescent, was reported to police and circulated on social media.
Brighton Beach SAPS operational support’s Warrant Officer Myran Small and Constable Garth Mei responded and began a search for the missing apparatus.
Security Force’s Louis Le Roux headed to assist the officers. Upon his arrival he was given a description of the alleged perpetrator, which he recognised as a man he had seen pushing a trolley along Iran Road.
“The police officers andh Le Roux made their way back to Iran Road. The trio stopped the man and Cst Mei searched the trolley he was pushing and found a hammer, wheel spanner and ratchet concealed in a black bag.
There was also a black compressor among the items. The man was unable to explain how he came to possess the items,” said Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
Back at the home where the theft occurred, the victim confirmed the compressor was his.
The man was arrested and charged with theft.
“This office is awaiting confirmation of the linkage of the other items found in the trolley to other crimes. Brighton Beach SAPS station commissioner, Colonel Carel Grobler and his management commend all involved.
We thank the complainant for the accurate description provided and Louis Le Roux for his vigilance showcased. The arrest and recovery would not have been possible without their support. Partnership policing has once again proven to be an effective tool to combat crime,” said Capt Le Roux.
