Five years for drug dealer

This will send a strong message to those people who are dealing in drugs in the community.

A five-year jail sentence was handed down to a 24-year-old man from Hime Street, Wentworth for the possession of 74 green straws containing heroin on Thursday, 15 September.

Travis Blood was found in possession of the drugs and cash believed to be obtained through drug dealing in May last year. He was charged with dealing and possession of drugs. Thanks to officers who provided the information, Captain Lawrence Lottering and Captain Mbuso Gumede made the arrest.

The case was postponed several times but finally concluded last week when Blood started serving his five-year sentence in Westville Prison.

“This will send a strong message to those people who are dealing in drugs in the community. Wentworth SAPS urge the community to report any drugs trafficking that is happening around them in order to eradicate drugs. Drugs are destroying our youth and our community and police appeal to the youth to stay away from drugs. There is no future in drugs. Focusing on education is much more important in order to have a bright future,” said Capt Gumede.
