Customer stabbed as gunmen flee with groceries

The stabbed victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A CUSTOMER was stabbed during a business robbery in a Merebank supermarket on Tuesday, 20 December.

Under the pretense of shopping, three men entered the supermarket and began loading a trolley full of groceries.

While at the tillpoint, one of the men pulled up his shirt to show the packer his gun. He then ordered all employees and customers to lay on the ground and they ran off with the items in the trolley. “It is believed a customer was stabbed as they fled the scene. The alarm was activated and Wentworth SAPS attended the crime scene,” said communications officer, Cpt Mbuso Gumede.

The stabbed victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

After a quick search, police managed to apprehend two of the men aged, 18 and 31-years-old. They were charged with business robbery. Both men were kept in Wentworth SAPS cells for further investigation. The third robber is still on the run.
