Woodlands women’s institute celebrates 58th birthday
Well done to the winners and everyone who enters the monthly competitions.
WOODLANDS Women’s Institute president, Valerie Wagner, together with its sister institutes, celebrated its 58th birthday on Friday, 3 May.
Valerie welcomed the members and sister institutions Stainbank WI and Yellowwood Park Evening WI to the party and prize giving. Tables were decorated with yellow and white flowers set in a Donkey Leaf resting on top of yellow overlays.
The reciting of the Mary Stewart Collect started the party off. Gifts of appreciation were given to committee members, tea hostesses Rose Simpkin and Priscilla Coskey, and to the two judges, Linda Melson and Martie Caldwell.
The awarding of prizes for competition work was held as members eagerly waited to see who would walk away with the trophies in each of the 11 categories together with small prizes for second and third places.
Well done to the winners and everyone who enters the monthly competitions.
Woodlands WI long standing member Phyllis Parsonage, had the honour of cutting the birthday cake made by the talented Martie Caldwell.
The money board and raffles were also drawn.
After tea Fanie of Ringz entertained them with many old known songs.
The successful morning closed with the singing of unity, sung by the Karaoke Queens of Stainbank WI.

WWI holds its next meeting on 7 June at the Montclair Recreation Hall, 191 Wood Road, Montclair at 9am for 9.30am and welcomes prospective new members.
