Grannies of Arcadia empowered and inspired
The grannies received a Brighton Beach Women's Network envelope of empowerment and inspiration, researched, developed and manufactured by Le Roux.
THE empowerment of women in the Brighton Beach policing area remained a focus area recently. Brighton Beach police communications officer Captain Louise Le Roux visited grannies of the Arcadia Old Age Home situated on the Bluff as part of the station’s women’s month operational activities. During her visit, Le Roux empowered female residents with safety guidelines on personal safety when occupying public spaces and when in their private dwellings. The mature and safe approach when using social media was also facilitated to those present.
Emphasis was placed on the domestic abuse of elder persons, including the economic abuse of older persons by their family. Those present were informed on how a protection order can protect them from abuse while explaining the various forms of abuse, and how to obtain such an order.
The grannies received a Brighton Beach Women’s Network envelope of empowerment and inspiration, researched, developed and manufactured by Le Roux.
“The envelope contained a brochure on elder care and protection and a brochure on domestic violence. The intention of these brochures is for women to educate and re-condition themselves on their personal safety, and their right as older persons in society. Within the envelope, there were also seven inspiration cards. There are days that grannies do get despondent, especially when they become troubled over their own well-being, that of their families and close friends. The inspirations cards have the purpose of helping the women find a sense of calmness, wisdom and inner strength,'” she said. The women in attendance also received lollipops from Captain Le Roux and participated in lucky draws activities.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit with the ladies. It was a pleasure for me to create my envelopes of empowerment and inspiration, in this way my messages to the women will linger on. There is a responsibility on us all to empower and protect older persons in our community,” she added.
