WATCH: Puppy gets rescued from drain
To make this feel-good story even better, the puppy was homed after its rescue.
A wandering puppy found its way down a residential drain in Montclair on Monday, 23 September at about 3pm, but a team of dedicated rescuers stopped at nothing to save him.
After three-and-a-half hours of drilling and hammering to break concrete and sift out sand to access drainage pipes, rescuers breathed sighs of relief when they finally got hold of the pup in distress.
According to a Facebook statement posted on Montclair Crime Eye, the puppy’s pitiful cries could be heard from three different sections of the drains. The group’s admin was among the first respondents to the scene and played a key role in sending out appeals to local businesses for drain inspection equipment to locate the puppy’s whereabouts.

“After much drilling and hammer swinging to break the concrete and many spadefuls of sand, we got him. The puppy was rescued at about 6.30pm. I can’t even begin to describe how we all felt when this puppy was finally brought to the surface. The screams of joy and smiles of relief, just seeing this bundle of joy finally out of the pipe,” (sic) read the statement.
A veterinarian on scene inspected the puppy, before it was sent to a local animal hospital. And to make this feel-good story even better, he was homed after its rescue. “Today makes us proud to be a part of this caring community,” concluded the post.
