Bluff Marathon attracts over 1K runners
The marathon followed the traditional two-lap course through the streets of the Bluff.
THE Bluff Athletic Club hosted its 54th edition of the annual Bluff Marathon on Sunday, 17 November.
Runners were assembled at the starting line just before the 5am start at the social event which offered distances of either the full marathon 42.2km, the half-marathon 21.1km or the 15km walk.
The marathon followed the traditional two-lap course through the streets of the Bluff.
Traffic services and emergency personnel ensured that roads were cordoned off while members of the athletics club and community served as marshals for the day.
“Bluff AC is thrilled to once again host this year’s event,” said chairman of the Bluff Athletic Club, Dennis Houston-McMillan, during the build-up to the race. “Not only does the marathon serve as a Comrades qualifier, but we have novel T-shirts this year, with medals for all finishers in the 42.2km, 21.1km and 15km categories.”
Runners experienced top-class refreshment tables and friendly marshals along the route.
Bluff residents and surrounding areas were out in support of the race day.
“This was a great event for the Bluff with over 1 500 runners visiting our beautiful suburb, and residents showing their support on the day,” Dennis added.
