Empowering and equipping small businesses
The next business workshop is planned to be hosted early November, the workshop will cater for the small businesses in the construction industry.
AFTER realising a gap in the information available to small local businesses within the community, the eThekwini Municipality hosted a small business workshop at the Bluff National Golf Course recently to spearhead growth and tackle the issue head on.
“Our Small Business Development and Empowerment Sub-Committee identified a need for small businesses to be educated on various topics including, finance and funding, construction compliance, the processes of licencing small kitchen businesses as well as informing business owners in the community about changes in the processes of obtaining a liquor license. A total of 50 people attended the workshop held in August,” said ward 66 Small Business Development chairperson, Charles Leaven.
Imparting some of their valuable entrepreneurial knowledge at the workshop were speakers from Business Support, the departments of business licensing and liquor licensing, National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) Construction Compliance as well as Sodurba Community Tourism Organisation.
“Sodurba had a presentation that captivated the audience. People recognised the economic value that tourism provides to local businesses and the audience engaged in a lengthy conversation with the Sodurba chairperson, Helga Du Preez,” said Charles.
The next business workshop is planned to be hosted early November, the workshop will cater for the small businesses in the construction industry. “If you would like to be a part of the planning of such events, or curious to know what other activities we have planned for our local business community, feel free to attend our next sub-committee meeting to be held on Thursday, 31 October.
