Update on orange refuse bag collections on the Bluff
The collection of recycling bags across the entire Bluff area has been affected since December 2019.
THE collection of recycling bags across the entire Bluff area has been affected since December 2019. According to Bluff councillor, JP Prinsloo, the cause of the delays or non-collection was due to the appointed contractor’s truck braking down and therefore not being able to fullfill his duties.
“This is the information received from DSW Education. Over this period DSW Education has been trying to resolve this problem by temporarily replacing the old contractor with a new contractor to restore this service. The department has assured my office that a temporary contractor has been instructed to clear the backlog that has occurred over this period and resume the collection of orange bags on normal collection days. No time frame has been provided as to when the backlog will be cleared or when the appointed contractor will resume his duties. Every attempt is being made to ensure that this service returns to normal as soon as possible,” said Prinsloo.
In the interim residents can dispose of their orange bags at the Bluff Eco Park recycling station. Uncollected bags can also be reported to dsw@durban.gov.za or by contacting 031-303-1665 or 031-468-3272. The temporary contractor can also be contacted on 073-612-1155.
