Countdown to darts season begins
Local teams will be kicking the year off with training from Tuesday, 21 January.
DARTS season is fast approaching and Yellowwood Park national darter Charmaine Neethling, is calling on all professional, amateur and interested players to join the stimulating sport. Local teams will be kicking the year off with training from Tuesday, 21 January.
The local district darts teams had a successful 2019, which saw the women’s A team runners up at the All Natals, while the B team were the winners. “Unfortunately our men did not fare well and tanked 12th. Our eThekwini Super League Women’s first team finished third while our second team walked off as with the winner’s trophy and our men came fourth. At the national championships the women finished in seventh place in the first division and the men finished 10th on the third division,” said Charmaine.
Darters, Vanessa Thomas and Belinda Leverington represented the eThekwini women at the nationals and Grace Britz was their manageress. Kathryn Sonnekus was selected for the youth team. Pat Sonnekus was the youth manageress. Rakesh Gayanchand was selected to play in the men’s masters team.
Tanya Thomas, Buffy Bisschoff and Charmaine Neethling were selected to be part of the KZN team that played at the DSA Championships finishing in second place. Mike Strydom was selected as manager of Aur5 and world cup youth manager. Tanya Thomas represented South Africa at the World Darts Federation World Cup held in Romania.
