Former seasoned detective turns 84

Former senior, seasoned detective Gops Reddy has achieved much in his lifetime.
He recently celebrated his 84th birthday, is married for 63 years to his wife, Kay, had three sons and two daughters. He also has an unblemished police career in crime prevention and detection record with the police for over 36 years.
He received many awards and accolades for his un-stinted and relentless pursuit of criminals throughout his career in an effort to put them behind bars.
He was based at Pietermaritzburg central, Loop Street, in his formative years as a young uniformed policeman walking and cycling the streets of Pietermaritzburg.

He was nominated by his superiors to attend a detective course. After successful completion, he was appointed as a detective at Plessislaer where his detective skills became an asset.
He recalls typing precis for case dockets on the bonnet of a police Land Rover with an old Remington manual typewriter, where members of the force were suspected of having committed an offence.
This was a requirement which accompanied the case docket before it was placed before the office of the attorney general for decision whether to prosecute or not.
