Clairwood EMS base personnel urged to not report for duty

The person who tested positive is currently in self-isolation.

FOLLOWING the confirmation of a positive Covid-19 case, the South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) is encouraging Clairwood EMS base personnel not to report on duty until they are tested and the station is fumigated.

The base is temporarily closed after one staff member tested positive for the virus and told personnel to go home to wait for testing day. The person who tested positive is currently in self-isolation.

“We hope the department will follow all necessary processes and comply, because we don’t want to see reports that Clairwood quarantine site is full of health workers after the department failed to comply with health safety measures,” SAEPU said in a statement.

“We are saying this as the department announced earlier this week that Clairwood hospital will be the latest addition to the province’s quarantine and isolation centres,” SAEPU added.
