Brighton Beach police hosts Mandela Day initiative for the aged
Through this outreach project, SAPS achieved its objective of conserving the spirit of ubuntu through its Mandela Day initiative.
THE 7th Heaven Home for the Aged was the recipient of the Brighton Beach police station’s Men for Change Mandela Day goodwill initiative.
The home was gifted with five knee blankets and two cool gel technology memory foam neck pillows on Friday, 17 July by the Brighton Beach police.
Project manager, Captain Louise le Roux, said these items have the purpose of creating comfort for the aged residents.
“In addition, the home was gifted with various flavours of cup-a-soup sachets. Gluten-free, diabetic, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) friendly bread produced by Teez Bakery accompanied the soup treat,” she said.
Captain Le Roux designed disposable soup cups with the image of the late former president, Nelson Mandela, to complement the theme of the outreach initiative.
“Each resident and caregiver also received their own soup spoon and a serviette. The soup treats and bread will be prepared and served by the home’s chef on Mandela Day, Saturday, 18 July, as a mid-morning treat.”
Through this goodwill outreach, the SAPS as an organisation, achieved its objective of conserving the spirit of ubuntu through its Mandela Day initiative, showcasing care for vulnerable groups in society, while entering into partnerships with organisations that care for the aged.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic it is imperative that our actions have a positive impact on others and on society,” added she added.
