Bluff family helps collect 408kg of pet food for rescue organisations
The pet food will be distributed among three animal rescue centres, namely the Bluff Rescue Kennels, Bark Angel, and Second Chance Sanctuary.
RESIDENTS extended their generosity during the festive season when they donated pet food for three animal rescue centres.
The Botha family from the Bluff facilitated the food drive by opening their home to the public for an amazing Christmas lights display.
Under strict Covid-19 protocols, visitors enjoyed the enchanting displays called the Christmas Wonderland in exchange for pet food.
The family collected an impressive 408kg of pet food which was distributed among three animal rescue centres, namely the Bluff Rescue Kennels, Bark Angel, and Second Chance Sanctuary.
Homeowner, Tinus Botha, said the aim of the display was for the enjoyment of people, especially after the challenging year.
“A couple of years ago, Warren Dick, suggested that we do a collection for a good cause and I thought it was a great idea. We then decided to ask for donations of dog and cat food and we collected it throughout December. This is because rescue shelters don’t get that much attention during the festive season as people tend to worry about gifting each other more. The community has really opened its hearts in a very big way,” he said.
Founder of Bark Angel, Debbie Moss, conveyed her thanks to the family and community.
“What an amazing gift on the last day of 2020. Tinus, you and your family are amazing. The collection of dog food to help the less fortunate is a wonderful initiative. Thank you to all who visited the spectacular Christmas fairytale home and supported the huge effort put into making this beautiful Christmas spirit which we all needed so badly after a very difficult year. May you all be blessed with a wonderful, prosperous year,” she said.
“Thank you to Tinus, his family, and the public for making a difference in the lives of the cats in our care. We appreciate being chosen,” said Cherece du Plessis of the Second Chance Sanctuary.
Amanda Herschel of the Bluff Rescue Kennels said the doggies are loving all the treats and food.
“Thank you very much to Tinus, Antoinette, and the family, for the Christmas lights that they put up every year and getting some awesome food for the kennels. We are extremely grateful for this gesture and we hope it goes from strength to strength. It is so nice to see that there are such kind people out there,” she said.
