WARD 64 councillor Gavin Hegter has urged residents to keep calm and refrain from sharing false information and sensational images during this period of unrest.
“There is a lot of fear and uncertainty at the moment with the rioting and looting that is taking place. I appeal to you to stay calm and stay at home. These are unprecedented times and SAPS and Metro Police together with many of the security companies are doing their best to get the situation under control. There is a lot of fake reports being posted and shared on various social media platforms. Please confirm all information before posting or sharing. It only creates more fear and panic. Please don’t be a part of the problem,” he said.
Hegter also reiterated that due to the civil unrest, municipal services have been affected. “There is no refuse removal and the Electricity and Water and Sanitation Department are doing their best to carry out repairs.”
