Bluff ballerina sets sights on New York

A BALLERINA’S dream could come true through the kindness and generosity of others.
Ballerina, Kayla Griffin, has been afforded a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the American Academy of Ballet Summer School in New York next year.
The 11-year-old Bluff girl will partake in the programme during the July 2022 school holidays.
She took part in the American Academy of Ballet performance awards and received a gold distinction and the Mignon Furman award recently.
“I did not expect it at all, but I have been working very hard practising for the performance awards. I was very happy to receive it,” said the Grade 5 learner at Glenwood Preparatory School.
Kayla took up ballet at just three-years-old. She is a member of the Betty Blake Academy of Dance, the KZN Theatre Danceworx Company and has performed in a number of Playhouse productions. In 2019, she received the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre bursary award.
“I have recently completed level six and would like to complete level 12 and then do my ballet teacher’s exam. I would like to teach ballet and open up my own ballet studio one day.
“Part-time, I would continue to dance in shows and theatre productions,” adding that her ballet role model is Elliana Walmsley.
