Beaches closed temporarily for shark safety gear

The eThekwini Municipality and the Sharks Board have announced the closure of some beaches along Durban’s coast, including Brighton Beach.

BRIGHTON Beach, along with other beaches along the coast, have been closed temporarily following the eThekwini Municipality and Sharks Board’s weather warning.

In a statement made by the municipality it said they would be removing the shark safety gear.

“Due to predicted inclement weather conditions, the Sharks Board has removed the shark safety gear as a precautionary measure on the northern, central, and southern beaches,” said the municipality. 

Affected beaches:

  • Thekwini Beach
  • Country Club
  • Laguna
  • Brighton Beach
  • Westbrook Beach
  • Bronze Beach
  • Umgababa Beach

The closures have taken immediate effect and no opening date has been announced.
