THE South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a Level 4 warning for disruptive rain, urging residents in the Durban and surrounding areas to be extra cautious.

This warning, effective from tomorrow (July 28) at noon until Wednesday (July 29) at midnight, anticipates widespread showers and thundershowers. Saws predicts that rainfall amounts could exceed 40mm, raising concerns about potential flooding and making travel hazardous.

• Localised flooding of roads and bridges.
• Damage to infrastructure and informal settlements.
• Difficult driving conditions due to poor visibility and slippery roads.
• Damage caused by hail and strong winds.
• Disruptions to communities affected by flooding or storm damage.

Express caution

• Avoid unnecessary activities at sea and along the coastline during this period. 
• Beachgoers, anglers, surfers and recreational water users are advised to remain vigilant and to follow all safety guidance issued by authorities. 
• Operators of small boats are urged to delay launching until conditions improve.
