State vet announces rabies vaccination drive for Durban South

The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will be embarking on a rabies vaccination drive in the Durban South.

THE KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will conduct free vaccinations for rabies throughout Durban South from July 20-23.

Starting in late July, veterinary teams will deploy mobile units to various sites within the eThekwini District to provide rabies vaccinations for domestic dogs and cats at no cost to the public. 

Queen Duma, a departmental animal health technician under the Department of Agriculture’s veterinary services directorate, emphasised that vaccination of household pets against rabies is extremely crucial, and that the disease is fatal but avoidable through regular immunisation.

Vaccination dates are as follows:

Monday, July 20

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Dhubri Road ground, Merebank
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Open space parking lot in Calicut Place, Merebank
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Parking lot of the library at Dharwar Road, Merebank

Tuesday, July 21

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Open space by Punjab Circle, Merebank
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Sportsfield on Burdwan Road, Merebank
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Park behind the Family Health Clinic, Austerville

Wednesday, July 22

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Park in Wolraad Road off Austerville Drive, Austerville
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Parking lot in Silvertree Road, Austerville
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Park in St Patrick’s Road, Grosvenor

Thursday, July 23

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Bluff Showgrounds, The Bluff
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Parking area near the Green Dolphin Restaurant, Anstey’s Beach
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Circle in Lieutenant King Crescent off Bluff Road, Kings Rest.
