City of Johannesburg manager Trevor Fowler announced that in their bid to fight corruption within the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, they will opt to embroider names and surnames of officers on their uniform.
Fowler was speaking during the Integrated Annual Report where he also announced that this year, they will fire, suspend and punish corrupt officers.
“We want motorists to be able to identify and know who they are talking to when stopped during road blocks or on the road, we are tired of misbehaving officers.
“They are supposed to help fight crime and not increase it, so its time they took their profession seriously and do the right thing.”
Fowler said they will also launch a number for motorist to call and log complaints immediately after they experience an incident with the officer.
“We are trying to build a safe and corruption free society and we want everyone to participate and help us to achieve our mission and goal.
“Officers’ corruption is a societal issue and it affects everyone, that’s why we are calling all residents to participate and help us get rid of corrupt officers.”
