The Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura with Acting Executive Mayor Councillor Mally Mokoena and Acting MMC for Community Development Councillor Nonceba Molwele opened the new Garden of Hope in Jabavu on June 16.
The government dignitaries planted the first tree named ‘Youth’ and this took place near the newly opened June 16 Memorial Acre as part of the 38 years, June 16 Commemoration.
Purpose of this garden is to bring hope to the young people and it will serve as a reflection site for them to carry on the spirit of the youth of 1976 and purpose of what the fallen heroes died for.
This was followed by a walk through the township, where residents marched on the same route the young people travelled during their protest for better education.
