Diepkloof’s young karate star Esihle Boholo named Karateka of the Month
Kofukan South Africa Karate honoured six-year-old Esihle Boholo as its August Karateka of the Month, recognising his discipline, determination, and rapid progress in the dojo.
A few years ago, the Kofukan South Africa Karate team introduced a tradition of recognising karatekas who show outstanding dedication and improvement in the dojo.
Every month, a karateka is nominated and awarded for attending training regularly, showing determination, and continuously improving their techniques.
Leadership qualities are also considered, as the dojo places importance on grooming its students from an early age to become responsible leaders.

“This culture has motivated our karatekas to work hard each month to win this award. The August Karateka of the Month trophy was scooped by Esihle Boholo, who is only six years old. His determination and dedication to karate are out of this world,” said Sensei Thabo Molubi.
“Watching him train and master his techniques puts a smile on my face every day. Boholo started karate at the age of five and, within a year, he has already graduated to a yellow belt. He is proving to be one of the best among our youngest karatekas.”
The monthly floating trophy is awarded not only to young karatekas but also to senior students to ensure motivation is balanced across all grades.
“This practice has also made our annual awards easier, as it helps us track dedication throughout the year.
“I take pride in all my karatekas as they strive to become better every day, whether they win the award or not. They remain resilient, and that resilience makes our dojo shine on the national stage.
“Congratulations to young Esihle for winning the Karateka of the Month trophy—may he continue to shine for our team,” added Molubi.
