R100 for sex – Joburg prostitute

The woman, who identified herself as Melissa (28), said she charged R100 for straight sex, and for extra services, she charged between R200 and R300, in the Johannesburg South area, Comaro Chronicle reported.

“I came to Johannesburg (from Chatsworth, Durban) to try and get work, but without matric no one wanted to employ me. I began selling my body out of desperation, and I’ve been doing this now for nearly three years,” she said.

“I rent a room in Rosettenville for R1 700 a month. It’s just a room, and there is an outside toilet and bath I can use.”

She added she has been arrested a few times.

“I’ve been let off paying bail once or twice or have had to pay R300 to get out of the police cell,” she said.

The plight of South Africa’s sex workers was highlighted at the launch of a national HIV/Aids programme, which focuses on their needs.

This as crimes against sex workers continue to be reported.

Earlier this month, Krugersdorp police investigated a case of attempted murder after a young woman believed to be a sex worker was shot and left for dead.

The woman was shot in the buttocks on the corner of Barrat Street and Main Reef Road.

No arrests have been made.

Last year, an 18-year-old man who was promised R2 million for the head of a white, Indian or coloured woman pleaded guilty in the Durban Regional Court to killing and decapitating a Durban prostitute.

Accused Falakhe Khumalo said he and his three co-accused lured Desiree Murugan (39) to the Shallcross Stadium in Chatsworth, Durban, where he paid her R100 for sex, including oral sex.

Murugan’s body was found the following day, while her head was found almost a week later.
