Community initiative brings relief to vulnerable families in Soweto

A Soweto-based non-profit organisation has extended a helping hand to vulnerable families through a food support programme focused on communities facing economic hardship.

A Soweto based non profit organisation brought hope and relief to struggling families through a grocery support initiative aimed at easing the burden of rising living costs.

The programme was made possible through partnerships, community efforts and support from Shoprite.

Members of vulnerable households in Dube and Naledi recently received food parcels and grocery support through an initiative led by the Tshepo Makole Youth Empowerment Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Daniel Tshepo Makole.

The organisation, which began operations in 2010 and was registered with the National Department of Social Development in 2011, continues to pursue its mission of helping disadvantaged communities with social and economic challenges.

The organisation stated that its motivation for this particular project was to assist households affected by the high cost of living, including rises in the prices of foodstuffs, fuel, and transportation, amongst others, affecting many people in South Africa.

According to the foundation’s founder and project leader, Daniel Tshepo Makole, the inspiration for the project arose from the problems faced by vulnerable communities during tough economic periods.

“I was doing research and watching TV programs and trying to find out how we could help people survive in these expensive and vulnerable periods,” said Makole.

“After doing some research and engagement, we approached Shoprite, and it went through a lot of processes before we were successful.”

He further mentioned that, despite various constraints such as manpower shortages, delivery problems, and resource constraints, the organisation ensured that the beneficiaries received their donations.
Makole thanked G

od and Shoprite for making this possible, as well as those who had supported the programme.
“We were able to assist members of our communities, and their families, through God’s mercy, and the help of many other people,” he added.

The Tshepo Makole Youth Empowerment Foundation will continue working to empower communities, aiming to reach out further in the future.
