The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation held auditions at Mofolo Hall during the weekend to select groups to be part of the upcoming regional gospel festival.

These try-outs were for the indigenous gospel choirs in Soweto.

Numerous groups gathered to share their talents and to share in the word of God through music and the groups who were selected, will participate at the festival which takes place in November.

According to the department representative Nomazwe Ntlokwana, this initiative was part of their efforts to promote, preserve, and support this culture that has been practiced by different township communities for so long.

She said this form of gospel music also known as clap and tap has been part of the community for years and was made famous by countless groups and they are happy to see it continue to grow in the township.
