Youth in the fight against crime

Young people are being encouraged to join the Moroka Youth Crime Prevention Desk.

Young people are being encouraged to join the Moroka Youth Crime Prevention Desk.

This group which falls under the community policing forum helps the police and to the community to fight crime in the Moroka policing area.

They also take part in education initiatives that inform the youth about crime and how this can ruin their lives.

Youth Desk chairperson Lebogang Matome said: “We are here to assist the police with crime education especially in schools so that we can create awareness about it, substance abuse and the challenges we face as the youth.

“There are times when some of the youth don’t seem interested in what we have to say, which is a challenge for us.

“We continue to ask more young people to join our team and all those who are interested should remember that we do not find jobs for people, we need people between the ages of 14 to 35, we have no joining fee and our task is to try and better the relationship between the community and the police.”

If any young people would like to volunteer and be part of this team, they can find them at the Moroka Police Station at office A7 which is next to the Crime Prevention Office.

And for more information, the group can be contacted on 011 527 0097.
