Library users urged to look after books

The assistant director library, Bongi Nkabinde has expressed her concerns following a report that some library users fail to return library books after they borrow them.

Nkabinde says the library in Bramfischerville does not have a computer to keep record of the books borrowed by study groups, which is why many books get lost.

She said that pupils need to be taught about the importance of looking after books.

“This is a temporary library as the city has not attainedfound any permanent space to build a library.

Nkabinde said the venue used as a library was meant to be a dance hall.

“We insisted to the city at least to reconsider converting the building into a library since we felt that there was a high need for installing a library,” said Nkabinde.

Librarian Patricia Mathe said pupils should go read at the library and not to take books away with them because other people might want to use them.

“We are running out of stock and the municipality supplies a specific number of books to us.

Mathe said, “We know how useful these books are to every pupil, especially this exam period, but they need to share among themselves.”

The library opens Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 5pm.
