ATM names Gauteng mayoral candidates for 2026 elections

The party unveiled 11 mayoral candidates in Soweto, with Zungula named as its candidate for Johannesburg and Velaphi Ernest Ndaba for Ekurhuleni.

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has unveiled its Gauteng mayoral candidate for the 2026 Local Government Elections at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto on September 14.

The hall was filled with members and servants in high spirits and optimistic about what lies ahead.

The team will lead the movements battle to reclaim municipalities from decay, corruption, incompetence and political complacency.

The ATM presented the following candidates to the people of Gauteng:

• Vuyolwethu Zungula- City of Johannesburg
• Mncedi Ndzwanana- City of Tshwane
• Velaphi Ernest Ndaba- City of Ekurhuleni
• Khayalethu Goodman Nkekwezi- Sedibeng District
• Dimakatso Pinkie Masopha- Midvaal
• Pulane Mokhanedii- Lesedi
• Siyanda Afrika- Emfuleni
• Danny Molefi Thupane- West Rand District
• Reneilwe Tiny Thupane- Mogale City
• Andiswa Xesibe- Merafong City
• Nnini Rebevva Mokoena- Rand West City

When asked about his thoughts on his nomination as mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg, Vuyolwethu Zungula said this is what the people wanted, and he is delighted to serve the same communities that got him to this position.

“Our track record in parliament speaks for itself in pushing for things to get done. We are very clear as a party that we are only here as members of the party to improve the lives of the people and are not here to play games, we are committed to bring change. We have a strong political will,” said Zungula.
