Not everyone was smiling on January 7 when the matric results were released.
For some, this was a day to frown.
19-year-old Khulelakani Maloka of Meadowlands High School said he was unpleasantly surprised when he did not find his name the newspapers.
“I am disappointed that I have not passed because I gave it my all,” he said.
He went to collect his statement at the school on the same day, on it was written ‘result incomplete’ because, it was claimed, he had been absent and did not write his consumer studies exam paper.
“I don’t know how this happened because I was present for all my exams,” he said.
Another pupil, Siyabonga Mazibuko is in the same situation as Maloka.
The disappointment was evident on their faces but they remained optimistic about their futures.
Maloka said he was going query the matter with the education department.
“Seeing other matriculants excited after finding their names in the newspapers saddened me but not once did I think of committing suicide.
“I am not giving up, I will re-write until I get the matric certificate,” Maloka said.
Maloka and Mazibuko insist that they were present for their consumer studies exam but think they wrote the wrong paper – Hospitality.
