The matriculation results were released on January 7 nationally.
According to the Minister of education Angie Motshekga the matric pass rate for the year of 2013 is 78, 2% from 73,9% in 2012.
Motshekga said that while the results have improved she acknowledges that a lot of work still needs to be done.
Diepkloof school results were significantly better than the past year but some of the schools were worse.
Diepdale Secondary School results went from 78, 7% to 87, 6%, Fidelitas Secondary School results were 79.5% and improved to 88.3% Fonts Luminis Secondary School results were 84.8% and this year they were 88.8%.
The schools that had disappointing results were Immaculata Secondary School that had 97.2% last year and dropped to 95, 7%, Namedi Secondary School did very well last year with 86,6% to 79,8% this year while Madibane Secondary School didn’t improve their 66,7%.
The principal of Fonts Luminis Secondary School said that although the results have improved, they know that they can do better.
“As a school we have realised that our weak point is that there is no partnership between the pupils, parents and teachers. For this year we will be strengthening the partnership and setting programmes that we work together and develop support groups.
“We will be rewarding excellence in every school quarter so that the pupils become motivated and work hard and failure will not be acceptable,” he said.
The top three Diepkloof pupils who passed matric will be honoured for their hard work later in January.
