Majority of arrests for drugs and alcohol

Police have made almost 200 arrests for the festive season.

Eldorado Park police made almost 200 arrests over the festive season.

Driving under the influence of alcohol and drug-related crimes contributed to the majority of arrests.

The police are in the process of implementing a strategic plan for the year where the fight against drugs will continue.

“This project will be run by the community with the police and other stakeholders,” said Captain Phillemon Khorombi.

Part of their plan includes ridding mob justice from Freedom Park, when residents take the law into their own hands.

Domestic violence continues to be a challenge for police while there was an increase in malicious damage to property, during the festive season.

Khorombi said that the most common cases of domestic violence occur between exes.

“People should accept that there is no longer a relationship and move on with their lives,” he said.

Police have also seen an increase in hijacking especially on the Golden Highway at Stockwell Avenue and the off ramp to the N12 from the Golden Highway.

“We are aware of the situation and doing what is necessary,” Khorombi said.
