Young believers makes a difference

Youngsters trying to make their community a better place to live in.

This past Saturday, the Riverlea Believers hosted a soup kitchen to alleviate hunger and poverty in Riverlea Extension.

Riverlea Believers are a group of youngsters based in Riverlea that enjoy doing anything in a variety of art forms.

Riverlea Extension is an area that is faced with social ills and unemployment affects a lot of homes.

The soup kitchen fed over 100 children but they would like to increase this over time and get more sponsorship.

“We would like to host this event every second week within the area,” said Bronwyn Theys.

One of their main sponsors of this event was Ralph Hiebner and Janie Marx.

“We would like to give great thanks to our sponsors and believe that reaching out to touch the lives of underprivileged children is our mission.

“We look forward to many more soup kitchens in the community and urge anybody who can assist to contact us directly with regards to any sponsorships that may become available , we also ask for any kind of donations that might help the community fight back against alcohol and drug abuse affecting the children of this community,” said Theys.

The Believers have helped a family that suffered from substance abuse and used their home for a ‘Lolly Lounge’.

“The Riverlea Believers also assisted a 56-year-old woman involved in drug abuse by renovating her home that was turned into a lolly lounge by her daughter , we painted and donated furniture bedding and a brand new bed,” said Theys.
