Body recovered from dam in Lenasia
The body of an unidentified person has been recovered from the Lenasia Ext 1 Dam, with police warning residents about the dangers of open water.
Members of the Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services were deployed to the scene to retrieve the body.
Police said the victim could not be identified due to the advanced stage of decomposition.
The body was retrieved and handed over to members of Lenasia SAPS, who are expected to open an inquest docket and conduct further investigations.

Gauteng Police Emergency spokesperson Raymond Sambo urged members of the public to take precautions when entering or being near dams, rivers and other bodies of water to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
“People venturing into open water for any activity are advised to wear life jackets. Parents are also urged to educate young children about the dangers associated with open water and ensure that they are constantly supervised,” said Sambo.
