Suspected hijacker arrested

A man was arrested for hijacking and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

A high speed chase led to the arrest of a man who allegedly hijacked a car in Lenasia and was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect approached a man who was dumping rubble in Lenasia and told the victim that he is a policeman.

The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the keys to his Ford Bantam bakkie.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) chased the suspect and called for back-up from the flying squad, Eldorado Park and Kliptown police.

The suspect was apprehended in Main Road and was detained.

Meanwhile police are warning motorists that drunken driving will not be tolerated.

“There are unnecessary accidents where innocent people die. If we find that you are intoxicated while driving, we will arrest you,” Captain Phillemon Khorombi said.
