Cabinet urges SA to celebrate Commonwealth champs

Team SA clinched 13 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals.

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, says Cabinet has called on South Africans to celebrate the achievements of Team South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Team SA clinched 13 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals.

“South Africa achieved 7th place in the medal rankings and was the best performing African country,” said Minister Radebe in Pretoria on Thursday.

He was briefing media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held this week.

The Minister said Cabinet congratulated the team for their outstanding performance.

Government called on South Africans to proudly wear the national team colours on today, as the athletes take to the streets and ride on an open bus to meet and greet their fellow South Africans.

The main celebration will take place at Mandela Square in Sandton this afternoon, where the event will be broadcast on national television. – SAnews.gov.za
