Rea Vaya strike ends

Rea Vaya buses back on the road as strike ends.

Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is back on the road after a two day strike.

The strike was between the bus operator Pioneer Transport ( Piotrans) and the bus drivers .

Dumisani Mntambo general manager, strategy and transformation at Piotrans stated the dispute was due to training payment disagreements backdating to 2009.

“The bus drivers requested for payment for training that was provided to them in 2009.

We requested for written confirmation of the amounts they agreed on with the training providers they however, failed to provide such,” said Mntabo

The affected routes were T1 route from Soweto to the CBD, C1 route from Dobsonville to Ellis Park, C3 route that is from Braamfontein to the inner City.

The feeder routes Naledi, Protea Glen, Mofolo and Eldorado Park were also affected by the strike.

“The matter has however been resorted and buses have gone back to normal, we wish to apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience,” said Mntabo.
