Social media connecting state and people

The presidency is using social media to connect to the public on what issues should be discussed in the state of the Nation address.

The public took to their social media accounts to give the Presidency suggestions on what should be highlighted in the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 12.

A range of issues were discussed by members of the public through Twitter and Facebook.

Some of the topics that were highlighted were small medium and micro enterprise development, basic education, social development, crime and drug abuse, corruption and housing.

An issue that were extensively discussed on twitter were the road works, accidents and the E-toll system.

The presidency invited the public to give input on the topics for the address on February 1.

The public had the opportunity to interact with the presidency on topics and issues they felt President Jacob Zuma should talk about in his address.

According to the official twitter account of the presidency the handle @PresidencyZa was seen by 27,871 people and received 2000 comments by February 5.

At the same time the presidency’s official Facebook account reached 106,400 people, getting 1504 comments and suggestions.
