Millions to be put into Gauteng township businesses
The Gauteng government plans to revive townships with R160 million to fight unemployment, poverty and inequality.
The Gauteng government has set aside more than R160 million towards uplifting township businesses.
This comes after Premier David Makhura said in the State of the Province Address that this would be done to help address issues of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
MEC for Economic Development Lebogang Maile said in addition to this, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni have set aside R3 billion, R22 million and R150 million which will be used to support the township economy and the township entrepreneurs over the next five years.
“Our government continues to report on work opportunities created and indications are that we are on the right track towards the creation of the one million work opportunities we committed ourselves to, through a more comprehensive and integrated Expanded Public Works Programme and Community Works Programme by the end of this term,” Maile said.
