Chris Hani: Assassinated today 22 years ago

Walk of remembrance to be held in Boksburg to remember Hani.

22-years-ago on this day, the late South African Communist Party leader, Chris Hani was assassinated outside his home in Dawn Park, East of Johannesburg.

Born in June 28 1942 at Cofimvaba, Hani became the General Secretary of the SACP in 1991 and was an ANC member since 1974.

Today, the nation remembers Chris Hani as there will be a 22 years anniversary in Boksburg since he died.

The president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma is expected to unveil the Chris Hani and Walk of Remembrance Monument and also declare Hani’s grave a heritage site.

One of his greatest honours is that one of the largest hospitals in the world, Chris Hani Baragwaneth Hospital was named after him.
