Protesters torch fire engine

Tensions are high at Mzimhlophe Hostel near Meadowlands as dwellers continued to protest over power shortages.

Protesters in Mzimhlophe set alight a fire engine last night and injured a firefighter during their protest against power outages.

The protest entered its third day this morning as residents demand Eskom to limit power cuts in the area.

The crowd was dispersed by 8am this morning and JMPD remain vigilant in the area.

Mzimhlophe Hostel dwellers took to the streets yesterday morning to protest against electricity blackouts.

According to residents these blackouts have left some of them without electricity for a month now.

Traffic was affected yesterday but today the situation has calmed down and the JMPD is urging motorists to avoid Rev Frederick Modise Drive.
