Taverns closed, goods confiscated

Owners who didn’t comply will face the might of the law.

A special joint operation by police and JMPD led to the arrest of owners of second-hand goods stores and shebeens.

Officers went to nine second-hand stores where they confiscated eight compressors.

“The items were confiscated and nine people were given a summons as they did not comply with the Second-Hand Goods Act,” captain Phillemon Khorombi said.

Meanwhile three taverns were closed for not complying with the Liquor Act.

Alcohol was also confiscated.
