JMPD officer arrested for accepting bribe
R2100 found in the possession of JMPD officer believed to be from bribery.
A female metro police officer was arrested in Dobsonville for allegedly accepting a bribe from a motorist.
The arrest follows an operation by an undercover unit from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) whereby an officer posed as a driver of an un-roadworthy vehicle.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, Edna Mamonyane said that the officer should’ve removed the disc from the vehicle, call a breakdown to tow the vehicle and to discontinue the vehicle.
It is alleged that she accepted R100 bribe from the undercover officer.
“R2100 was found in her possession,” said Mamonyane.
The officer was to appear in court today, March 29.
Mamonyane said JMPD will have its own internal case into this matter.
“I am pleading with the public not to bribe police officers whether from JMPD or SAPS because it is wrong.
“Instead, plead your case to an officer and apologise if it was a mistake you made and learn from it and prevent it from happening ever again,” said Mamonyane.
