Jabulani Mall celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 23, marking two decades of serving the Soweto community.
For two decades, the mall has been part of the community, creating memorable experiences, supporting local growth and providing a space for people to shop, connect and spend time together.
Jabulani Mall owner and developer Dr Mike Nkuna said it had been a long journey. His dreams and passion for development began in Chiawelo, where he built a small shopping centre, before expanding to Bara Mall and eventually Jabulani Mall.

He said one of the biggest challenges he had faced over the years was securing funding, as convincing banks to finance large-scale developments was difficult.
“To every child who sees this as an inspiration, I encourage them to go to school and explore property development and engineering courses. To my tenants at Jabulani Mall, I am grateful for their trust. Without them and the community, we are nothing, and we appreciate their support,” he said.
Sebolelo Mokoka from Shoprite said the retailer was grateful to have been part of Jabulani Mall for the past 20 years, describing it as a major milestone.
“We are very grateful to have been given this opportunity and space to operate here for over 20 years. It has been a great journey, and we value the relationship we have built with the mall and the community. We hope to remain part of the Jabulani Mall family for many more years to come,” she said.

Zola resident Dineo Khesilani said Jabulani Mall had played a significant role in serving the community and creating employment opportunities for local families.
“This is a wonderful mall, and it is close to where I live. Many of the stores here also create employment opportunities for people in our community, making it easier for families to earn a living. We are grateful to have a mall like this in our area,” she said.
