
The school holidays are just around the corner, and pupils better be prepared to use yet another opportunity to improve on their academics by participating in the Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP).
SSIP takes place during weekends and school holidays.
For the 2016 academic year, Gauteng Department of Education provides extra tutorial support to 73 054 Grade 12 pupils.
Despite weekend classes, GDE will continue its school holiday programmes on June 27 to July 8.
The second term on all government public schools ends June 24, on this day, schools will officially be closing.
The third term kicks in on July 18 to September 30.
According to GDE’s spokesperson Oupa Bodibe, pupils receive extra tutorial support in the following 10 key subjects:
- Maths
- Maths literacy
- Physical sciences
- Life sciences
- Accounting
- Economics
- Business studies
- History
- Geography
- English First Additional Language.
Bodibe said the SSIP programme is designed to enhance the Grade 12 pupil performance particularly in previously disadvantaged communities, especially schools that performed below the provincial average in the 2015 National Senior Certificate examinations.
The programme will be offered in 168 sites across Gauteng.
