Baby killed by taxi, Bosmont

Mother and baby were hit by a taxi in Bosmont.

A mother and her child (approximately 2 years old) were hit by a taxi on Olywenhout Street in Bosmont this morning.

According to a spokesperson for ER24,  Pieter Rossouw, said the mother was allegedly carrying the child on her back when the taxi hit them.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the mother and the child lying in the road.

“After assessment it was found that the child had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” said Rossouw.

The mother sustained moderate injuries and was treated and transported by provincial services to Helen Joseph Hospital for further treatment.

The taxi driver did not sustain any injuries but local authorities are investigating the case.

The cause of the incident is still unknown at this point.
