Metrobus strike continues

Bus operator apologises to stranded commuters as negotiations to end strike continues.

Johannesburg Metrobus management has apologised to commuters who have been left stranded due to strike action by bus drivers.

Last week bus drivers affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union(Samwu) downed tools in disagreement with the move by management to outsource inspectors.

The strike has resulted in many bus routes being suspended while Metrobus management engages with employee representatives.

“We know passengers are not very happy but we will do everything in our power to get the buses back on the road,” said Metrobus spokesperson Esther Dreyer.

About 229 routes have been affected by the strike according to Metrobus.

It is not clear at the moment as to when can workers get back to their workstations but negotiations are continuing.

“Our expert team is in discussions with workers and it looks promising,” said Dreyer.
