A new way of communication for schools

Principals expected to run schools more effectively and to address problems significantly.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi recently handed over the Principals Reporting Platform (tablets) that will be used by all principals in the province to share information and instantly report problems to the Department, plus an automatic alert system to ensure that all reports are submitted on time.

The implementation of the GDE ICT school-based strategy ensures prompt, efficient and effective support to all Gauteng Department of Education schools.

The principals reporting platform supports the administrative processes underpinning e-platforms and remains a focal point of communication between principals, district, and head office.

It ensures real-time incident reporting and tracks pupils attendance, amongst others.

More than 2000 principals from across the province have received tools that will enable them to report incidents and manage their schools better.

GDE and Vodacom rolled out tablets and cellphones to principals.

The communication gadgets will be used to provide information and also:

– Updating a daily register of pupil attendance
– Provide accurate information on the attendance of employees
– Reporting of incidents
– Accurate information on principal and school’s profile
– Receive and provide messages to the principal and the department

This is the third roll out of gadgets, the first happened in 2011 and followed again in 2013.
