Helen Joseph residence staff out in the cold

Refurbishment of the hospital leads to the eviction of the staff

Resident staff at the Helen Joseph Hospital have reportedly been told to evict the premises.  This has led to staff being unsure as to where they will go.

According to the Department of Health, meetings were held last year to discuss refurbishment plans. The meetings took place between different trade unions and nurses unions.

In the meetings it was discussed that the nurses will be given three months notification before eviction. Shadow MEC for Health Jack Bloom said the refurbishment is necessary.

“It seems there was not adequate communication about alternative accommodation and who is entitled to this under labour law,”said Bloom.
