Zuma reaffirms stance against drugs, Luthuli House
The fight against substance abuse is important.
In a meeting held on October 3, at Luthuli House, president Jacob Zuma provided an update on the presidential anti-drug campaign and to explore ways of creating recovery capital in affected communities.
Dereleen James, along with close friend and public relations coordinator, Glisson Niekerk attended the closed meeting.
According to James, the president said, “I had to see you. The fight against substance abuse is of utmost importance to me.”
“We need to meet again to re-look at our approach and strategy.”
The meeting looked at how to adopt strategies to address the proliferating drug problem in communities across South Africa and was not confined to one specific community.
James says she feels optimistic about the president’s resolve towards eradicating these issues and adds that, “We all thought 2013 was a talk shop and this shows that the president is keeping his word.”
“With the dedication of LDAC and other community leaders, I’m sure the impact will be felt sooner.”
“It takes a collective effort to effect change and that’s what I see happening in Eldorado Park. We’ve come a long way and faced many hurdles and the passion displayed by our leaders lies deeper than our differences.”
